♱ Welcome to the Garden of Remembrance ♱
It is said that there are many worlds, layered atop one another like paper lanterns stacked in a shrine. The living move in the outermost layer, bright and loud and brief. The dead drift in the innermost layer, quiet and heavy with memory.Between these layers lies something more delicate - a threshold, a crossing, a corridor of dusk where day has not yet ended, and night has not quite begun. It is there that she walks.

♱ Lantern Keeper ♱
A cathedral-born spirit tasked with guiding forgotten souls through the fogMorgue's appearance blends gothic mourning attire with relics gathered from abandoned chapels and overgrown graveyards. Her dress resembles a funeral procession garment, featuring a corset shaped from exposed ribs and a lantern-red bodice bound together with silver reliquary clasps. Layered skirts fall like funeral drapery, their edges darkened as though touched by candle sootFrom her back, delicate skeletal wings extend, formed from iron arches and thorn-wrapped cathedral latticework. Dead flowers and rosary chains hang from their frame, giving the impression of a shrine reclaimed by natureHer tail appears less like a natural appendage and more like a living thorn branch taken from an ancient cemetery hedge. Small crosses, memorial charms, and remnants of forgotten offerings cling to its surface. One stocking remains intact while the other has unraveled into web-like lace, reinforcing the asymmetry often found in aged relics and decayed vestmentsHeavy platform boots decorated with skulls, chains, and floral growths suggest countless journeys through overgrown burial grounds. Throughout the design, motifs of remembrance appear repeatedly: lanterns, bones, thorns, crosses, and flowers preserved long after deathDespite her unsettling imagery, her expression remains soft and welcoming, less a monster than a caretaker, ensuring no soul is left behind
♱ Reliquary Saint ♱
A living shrine carrying the memories of the forgotten deadThis form presents Morgue as more of a saintly apparition than a simple mortuary keeper. Her silhouette is taller, more ceremonial, and distinctly cathedral-inspired. The gown narrows into a long, altar-like drape adorned with skeletal motifs that imitate both ribs and stained-glass traceryEmerging from her back are elaborate reliquary limbs resembling wrought-iron candelabras and cathedral arches. Roses bloom directly from these structures, while hanging lanterns sway beneath them like sacred offerings carried during a midnight procession. The limbs frame her body in the same way church architecture frames an altarHer sleeves expand into lacework structures resembling chapel windows, their interiors woven with geometric web patterns that evoke both spider silk and gothic stonework. The contrast of black iron and pale blue glass-like accents creates the impression that portions of a cathedral have become animateThe design incorporates recurring symbols of devotion and mortality: rosaries, roses, skeletal forms, hanging charms, and thorned branches. Decorative skull blossoms at her feet suggest flowers nourished by memory itselfUnlike the Lantern Keeper, who appears as a guide through death, this form feels as though she has become the destination, a sacred monument where forgotten names, prayers, and memories are preserved forever

♱ Procession Mother ♱
When the fog grows thick and the procession loses its way, Morgue reveals the form hidden beneath the chapel's stained glass and candlelightHer smile stretches far beyond what should be possible, splitting into an unnaturally wide grin lined with silver-stained teeth resembling sacred relics preserved in tarnished metal. The softness of her eyes vanishes as they transform into hollow stained-glass windows illuminated from within. At times, a solitary lantern flame flickers where one pupil should be, burning with the memory of names long forgottenThe body itself begins to unfold like a cathedral awakening from centuries of slumber. Her ribcage separates into towering iron gates, opening outward to reveal not flesh and bone, but a sanctuary filled with hundreds of floating candles and lanterns. Their flames drift endlessly through the hollow chamber of her chest, each one representing a soul carried safely through the fogBehind her rise immense wings of wrought iron and stained glass. Thorned branches harden into grave markers and memorial monuments, while cathedral arches stretch outward in place of feathers. The structure resembles less a living creature and more a sacred shrine given motionFrom her tail hang countless chains engraved with forgotten names. Some are weathered beyond recognition, while others gleam as though newly inscribed. They sway gently with every movement, creating the distant sound of mourning bells carried on the windSuspended behind her is the Incorrupt Heart, a violet relic bound in chains. Though the rest of her form bears the stillness of death, the heart continues to beat with unwavering purpose. Each pulse illuminates the fog around her, casting ghostly light across the procession she shepherdsWhen she speaks, her throat opens into a vertical lantern-lit maw. Bells sway within the darkness alongside rows of candlelit teeth, and tiny lights flicker deep inside the cavity as though an entire chapel burns somewhere beyond reach. Her voice emerges not from lungs, but from the collective glow of the lanterns she carriesEven the small heart-shaped curl above her head transforms. It separates into a halo of miniature lanterns that slowly circle behind her like the iconography of a saint immortalized in stained glass. Their light never dims, no matter how deep the darkness growsIn this form, Morgue no longer resembles a mortuary keeperShe becomes a walking reliquary, a living cathedral wandering through the fog with hundreds of souls sheltered within. The horror is not that she has become a monsterThe horror is that she has become something sacred enough to carry the dead forever

♱ Morgue's Origin ♱
Long before names were written in stone, before prayers were spoken over graves, there existed a place between worlds. The living knew nothing of it. The dead rarely remembered it.It was a corridor of dusk, suspended between the final breath and whatever came after. A place where memory lingered longer than flesh and where forgotten souls wandered beneath an endless violet sky.It is there that Morgue walks. The spider lilies bloom wherever her lantern shines. Crimson petals emerge from barren ground, marking every soul she guides. To some, they are flowers of mourning. To Morgue, they are proof that someone existed. Proof that a life mattered. Proof that no one should vanish without remembrance. There was a time when she walked alone. In those distant days, she was neither saint nor keeper. She was simply a witness to endings. She watched kings and beggars die beneath the same sky. She listened to final confessions and carried last memories through the veil. Her lantern held no flame. It burned with remembrance itself, illuminating paths that only the departed could see.As centuries passed, the rituals of the living began to fade. Ancient names were forgotten. Graves went untended. Souls arrived at the threshold carrying no guidance and no one waiting to remember them. The roads between worlds became tangled. Many were lost.Refusing to abandon them, Morgue remained within the veil and began gathering every fragment of memory she could find. Unfinished lullabies. Unspoken apologies. Promises made beneath rain-soaked skies. The echoes of laughter that otherwise would have disappeared forever. From these fragments, the Lantern Court was born.Yet even a guide cannot carry every burden alone. From the oldest lantern in her collection emerged the Lantern Keeper. The Keeper is the first light seen by wandering souls. Draped in funeral silks and carrying an eternal lantern, she walks ahead of Morgue through the fogbound roads between worlds. She searches for those who have lost their way and rekindles the memories that guide them home. Where her lantern shines, confusion fades and the path becomes visible once more.If the Lantern Keeper is the beginning of the journey, the Reliquary Saint is its memory. The Saint dwells among the countless relics gathered by the Lantern Court. Every token, every keepsake, every forgotten story passes through her hands. She safeguards the pieces of people that would otherwise be lost to time. Broken rosaries, faded letters, cracked lockets, and names spoken only once are preserved within her sacred reliquaries. Nothing entrusted to the Saint is ever truly forgotten. And where memory is preserved, grief must also be carried.
For that task, there is the Procession Mother.
Clad in garments woven from mourning veils and funeral banners, she walks at the rear of every procession. She gathers the sorrow left behind by both the living and the dead, carrying it so others do not have to bear it alone. Her voice is soft and steady, guiding mourners forward one step at a time. To the grieving, she is comfort. To the lost, she is reassurance. To those afraid of crossing the threshold, she is the hand that never lets go.Together they form the three sacred aspects of Morgue's purpose. The Lantern Keeper finds the lost. The Reliquary Saint remembers them. The Procession Mother carries them onward. And at the center of them all stands Morgue herself, the keeper of the threshold. She is never truly alone.Neither is Skully.Once a fearsome hound of the underworld, Skully followed Morgue into the veil and found himself transformed by the living world. The colossal beast of ruin became smaller, stranger, and considerably more interested in snacks. Though his appearance changed, his purpose did not. He remains a guardian of wandering souls, chasing away the things that lurk in forgotten places and standing watch beside every lantern-lit path.Over time, Morgue realized the dead were not the only ones who wandered. The living wandered too. They lost themselves in loneliness, exhaustion, grief, and silence. So she opened another doorway. Not a gate of stone. Not a ritual circle.A signal.A broadcast.A lantern shining through a screen. The space she created became an extension of the Lantern Court, a place where weary travelers could rest, where stories could be shared, and where no one needed to carry their burdens alone. Here, the threshold is not something to fear. It is warm. It is welcoming. It is illuminated by countless lanterns held by those who chose to stay.Because Morgue's purpose has never been death. It has always been remembrance. Her promise remains unchanged. No one crosses alone. Not the forgotten. Not the wandering. Not the grieving. Not the living.
♱ Skully's Origin ♱
Before the Lantern Court existed, before spider lilies bloomed along the threshold, there were hounds that roamed the deepest roads of the Underworld.Among them was Skully. No soul remembers where he came from. Some claim he was born from the first funeral pyre. Others believe he emerged from the bones of a forgotten god. The oldest spirits simply lower their voices when his name is spoken. What is known is this:He was enormous.A creature of iron bones and ember-lit eyes, large enough to blot out torchlight as he passed. His ribs resembled cathedral arches. His footsteps echoed through caverns older than memory. When he howled, wandering souls froze where they stood.Skully was not cruel. He was not kind.He was purpose given form. His duty was to hunt the lost, gather the forgotten, and return wandering spirits to the paths they were meant to walk. Through endless ages he carried out that task without hesitation. He knew nothing else. Then he saw a lantern. It was unlike any light he had encountered before. The glow was neither fearful nor desperate. It did not burn with sorrow, rage, or regret. It was warm. Gentle. Steady.Curious, Skully followed it through the corridors between worlds. At the lantern's center stood a solitary figure. She was not a queen of the dead. Not a goddess. Not a reaper. She carried no chains and demanded no obedience.Instead, she carried memory.Where Skully gathered souls, she guided them.Where he brought endings, she offered meaning.Where he saw duty, she saw lives worth remembering. For the first time in his existence, Skully stopped. He lowered his head. And when Morgue continued walking, he followed. Not because he was commanded.Because he chose to.
From that day forward, the great hound of the Underworld became her companion. When Morgue crossed into the world of the living, Skully followed once more. The realm did not know what to do with a creature forged for eternity. The vastness of his form folded inward. Ancient power compressed itself into something much smaller. Cathedral-sized bones became compact and manageable. His thunderous howl became far less intimidating than he would like to admit.Skully considers this a temporary inconvenience.Others know better.Though his size changed, nothing truly important was lost. The fire behind his eyes still burns. The instincts of an Underworld guardian remain sharp. And his loyalty to Morgue is as absolute as it has ever been.Today, Skully serves as the watchful guardian of the Lantern Court. He patrols lantern-lit roads invisible to most eyes. He chases away things that linger too close to wandering souls. He keeps watch beside the Procession Mother, naps near the Reliquary Saint's halls, and stubbornly follows the Lantern Keeper whenever she ventures into the fog.To strangers, he often appears mischievous. To friends, he is affectionate in his own peculiar way.To threats, he is a reminder that the Underworld has not forgotten how to bare its teeth. He growls at sadness. He barks at loneliness. He investigates suspicious noises with far more confidence than caution. He collects bones, keepsakes, and occasionally objects that do not belong to him.He does not fully understand personal space.Or doors.Or why Morgue insists certain things are not food. What he does understand is that no one under the lantern's light should be left alone. And so, whenever the path grows dark and the weight of the world becomes difficult to carry, Skully takes his place beside those who need him.A small hound.A stubborn guardian.A relic of the Underworld wrapped in fur, teeth, and unwavering devotion. The darkness may linger. But it will never have the last word while Skully is still growling at it.
